About Laurens Nijssen
Laurens Nijssen, chartered accountant and founder of Nijssen & Partners, established this firm with a clear mission: to support clients with their international, cross-border financial statement audits.
Experienced auditor
Laurens Nijssen began his career in 2008 at KPMG Meijburg, later gaining substantial experience in international audits at a leading Dutch accountancy firm. Over the years, he has audited numerous financial statements for international group structures, working as both a group auditor and a ‘component auditor’—an auditor responsible for reviewing the financial statements of individual group entities. His expertise lies in international, cross-border audits.
A global citizen
Having spent much of his youth abroad, Laurens considers himself a true global citizen. Born in Argentina and later living in Mexico, his international background has given him dual nationality and fluency in five languages: Dutch, English, German, Spanish, and Italian. Working extensively with international organisations, he has developed a strong understanding of social diversity and is adept at navigating cultural differences.
An art enthusiast
Laurens’ love for art was inspired by his parents, who filled their home with paintings by Antonio Acosta, a contemporary Mexican artist. Acosta’s work explores folkloric and social themes and features striking still lifes of native fruits. His bold use of colour and shape captivates viewers and invites them to look closer. In the Netherlands, Acosta’s work is not widely known, so Laurens and his brother founded a charity to promote the artist’s work. The images on this website feature photographs of Acosta’s paintings.
The pursuit and application of knowledge
Gaining and applying knowledge has always been fundamental for Laurens, who invested extensively in his education. He holds master’s degrees in tax law and civil law from Erasmus University Rotterdam and completed a master’s and post-master’s in accountancy from Nyenrode Business University. Additionally, he earned a post-master’s in international and European tax law at Erasmus University.
These three pillars – Dutch law (with a focus on civil law), accountancy, and tax law – form the foundation of Nijssen & Partners. Laurens applies his expertise at the intersection of these disciplines, focusing on the specific needs of organisations with complex structures, challenging issues and cross-border entities. Each audit approach is tailored to the client, recognising the unique dynamics, culture, group structure and workflows of every organisation.
